We begin our AEA year with activity from all areas on the National forefront. As your AEA President, I am here to serve you, our members of the American Escrow Association. Our committees are up and running and we ask you to get involve and participate. Go onto the AEA Website and check out the calendar and committees and find one that might interest you. Whether it be Government Affairs, Education or one of our other committees, we encourage involvement from you, our members.
My platform is “Shaping the Way Through AEA. Yours is the Voice of the Future”. Change is happening faster than ever in our industry and we need to be proactive and adapt. We need to think outside the box and be innovative. Now is the time for us to step up and partner with our trade affiliates. We have the opportunity, to collaborate with our allied industry partners and make a positive impact. We have a voice and it is time to be heard. You are the voice. The voice of today, the voice of tomorrow, the voice of the future.
AEA has a larger (than ever before) array of federal items being tracked, monitored and addressed by Art Davis, our Washington, DC Representative. The major reason is the rush of legislation introduced since 2017 on a variety of issues that can affect escrow. On CFPB, we are working on additional examples to be added to the small entity compliance guide and the timeline example, both part of the informal guidance. We also have been invited to assist with the new consumer educational material on risk issues for buyer’s wire fraud involving their own funds. This likely would be added to their Home Loan Toolkit materials. FinCEN is also an area of significant action. This includes joint training with AEA on the Form 8300, SARs in general and voluntary, and GTOs. This is expected to be a joint webinar in 2019.
As we work together with a positive attitude, we look to innovate, create and educate. Remember, yours is the voice of the future, shaping the way through AEA.
